Making the most

This wasn’t the plan. I wasn’t supposed to be in Seattle right now. I was supposed to be tending my garden and caring for my chickens at our little house in North Idaho. The ‘right thing to do’ can change. For personal reasons, leaving that life was the right thing to do. I’ve learned that doing the right thing is not always fun or what you want to do, but that does not make it less right. If you try hard enough, you can always find a rose amongst the thorns, a silver lining, or make lemonade. That is what I am learning to do right now. It has not been easy, and what little progress I have made has been very slow and required lots of effort.

One of the biggest things that has helped me thus far has been intentional decorating. As we unpacked here in the new apartment, I took the opportunity to purge and keep only the things that bring my husband and me joy. I have since worked to fill in the gaps left by the purge with beautiful, unique pieces that have helped turn the space into a home that makes us smile. The addition of fresh flowers, house plants, and a few potted plants outside are seasonal pleasures I am indulging in as well.

Starting this blog is another method I am trying. Sharing my story and my journey forces me to reflect and really take the time to think of ways I can see the positive side of the life I find myself living. I have always enjoyed watching a few particular YouTubers who have spoken about their struggles while not wallowing in them, but doing their best and making the most with what they had and where they were. That is what I aspire to do. That is why I did not wait until my life was all sunshine and ravioli to start writing. I want people to be able to walk through my journey with me, learn from my mistakes, and be inspired by how far I have come. Because I know I can find joy here, and I know that even though things are difficult, this too shall pass.

Goodbye friends,

-Laura

P.S. My favorite YouTubers are The Cottage Fairy and Michelle Reed.
